Different Causes of Snoring

Millions of men and women suffer from snoring symptoms and it is as irritating for either of them. Snoring is obviously a problem and those who suffer from it always look for some solutions so that neither they will suffer from the irritating syndrome nor they will make others suffer from such ailments.

When someone is breathing, air would be flowing in as well as out of the body in form of steady stream. The air flows out of the nose or the mouth of the person concerned. Relatively few sounds would be there when someone is sitting as such person would be breathing quietly. On the other hand while performing exercises or hectic activities people will breathe heavily and a lot of sounds can be generated in the process. Such sounds are the outcome of air passing through the mouth or nose in a quicker vein creating more turbulence and vibration of the tissues.

Anatomic Reasons of Snoring

During sleep the back of throat narrows at times and therefore when the air passes through it vibrations are caused. Such vibration is converted into snoring. Narrowing can occur in the mouth, nose, or throat of a person and there can be different reasons for such narrowing.

Role of Nose in Snoring

Nose is the vital part of our anatomy that is used for breathing. While there are people who due to some health reasons or other breathe through their mouth, nose is still the most normal course for breathing. Basic tasks accomplished by nose are –

  • Humidifying the air intake in the body.
  • Heating out the air when taken inside the body or throwing them out.
  • It is a natural filter since many unwanted elements are filtered when air passes through it.

Difference in Breathing through Mouth

Snoring sounds are more prominent in persons that breathe through their mouth. Because the modifications like humidifying, heating, or filtering are comparatively fewer in the mouth breathing process. Air that is inhaled through mouth remains colder as well as dirtier and though the lungs are still able to use them, the process is not a healthy one. Moreover, lack of proper filtering will cause many unwarranted elements to be retained with the dirtier air and these may result in considerable health problems for the breather. Most important part of it is that nose is the natural breathing organ in the body and the body desires that breathing if any is carried out through the nose only.

Potent Causes of Snoring

Most potent causes of snoring are as follows –

  • Allergies that might clog the air path in the nose or mouth.
  • Cold and flu that causes snoring
  • Excessive alcohol consumption.
  • Thickening of tissues in nasal cavities that may call for surgical treatments.
  • Abnormally large guts.
  • Overuse of nasal spray or such other materials.
  • Abnormal enlargement of the tonsils or adenoids.
  • Smoking causing inflammation in nasal passage.
  • Large tongue blocking airflow.
  • Swelling of thyroid glands.
  • Use of medication to control obesity.

Whatever the cause of snoring might be, it would be good to obtain the advice of the doctor when such syndrome is recurrent in anyone.
